I made this notebook cover for a dear friend of mine. It was her birthday, and she recently started her own writing blog, and I wanted too encourage her to keep up her writing sessions, as I love her writings very much. You can read her pieces here, remark: the blog is written in Dutch.

The cover is made for an A5 Hema notebook, and I used the Eline’s Winterhuis happy & bright fabric, and a piece of twill tape for the embroidered text. The elastic for the closing, is made with a small hairband.

These paper balls are inspired on this design by Heather Bailey. I made it a bit easier by creating a printable PDF template, you can print directly on the stock paper.

I made two sizes: large for a ball with a diameter of approximately 17 cm and a small one for a ball with a diameter of approximately 12 cm. I wrote a how-to in English and Dutch.

Materials:

• A4 craft paper (Eline’s Winterhuis)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Rulers
• Beads, pompoms, bells, ribbon, yarn, robe etc. for decoration

First start with printing the template of your desired size on the backside of your selected craft paper, this is the template for the large size, and this is the template for the small size.
In total you need 20 paper rounds to make the ball, so for the large ball you need two sheets of paper and for the small one you only need one. But it’s nice to use different designs in one ball.

When you have printed the template on your craft paper, cut out the 20 rounds you want to use. Use the scissors and ruler to score the folding lines (the dotted lines in the circle) Fold all the lines, so you get triangles. Now glue first the top and bottom part together (see picture) use 5 circles and glue them together in a round.

For the middle part glue together the other 10 rounds, see picture how to put them together, then close the circle.

Before you put on the top and bottom part, first use some yarn, ribbon or robe to make a hanging loop and some decoration for the bottom of the ball.

Materiaal:

• A4 stevig hobbypapier (Eline’s Winterhuis)
• Schaar
• Lijm
• Lineaal
• Kralen, pompoms, belletjes, lint, garen, touw, etc. om de bal te versieren

Begin met het printen van de template op het hobbypapier, gebruik deze voor de grote bal en deze voor de kleine bal. Je hebt in totaal 20 cirkels van papier nodig, voor de grote bal zijn dat twee vellen en voor de kleine bal is dat een vel. Maar het is leuk om verschillende motieven in 1 bal te gebruiken.

Wanneer je de template op het papier geprint hebt, knip je de cirkels uit. Gebruik de schaar en liniaal om de vouwlijnen te rillen. Vouw langs de vouwlijnen zodat je driehoekjes krijgt.

Lijm eerst de cirkels voor de boven en onderkant aan elkaar (zie foto), gebruik hiervoor 5 cirkels. Lijm daarna het middenstuk aan elkaar met de resterende 10 cirkels (zie foto) sluit de cirkel.

Bevestig eerst een ophang lus van lint, touw of garen aan de bovenkant, en versier daarna de onderkant van de bal, voordat je de boven- en onderkant op het middenstuk lijmt.

Last Wednesday was the Eline’s Huis book party at the ‘Smidshuis‘ in Veenendaal.

In the morning the, almost complete, Eline’s Winterhuis crew got together. We chatted, ate cupcakes and had lunch, before we set everything up for the afternoon.

It was so nice to meet all the ‘Eline’s Huis’ enthusiastics, friends and family to celebrate this beautiful book with us. Gepke and I even set up a little pop-up shop where we sold the Eline’s Winterhuis materials.

It was a hard days work today to build the stand. But with great help of my dad, I’m very proud of the result. I find it a happy place where I love to meet creative people the next days.

So when I got this amazing birthday present from M last December, the full color range of Rowan Belle organic DK by Amy Butler, I knew I wanted to make that scarf with it. This yarn is 50% organic wool and 50% organic cotton, so warm and soft at the same time, perfect for a winter scarf.

And just in time for the next winter, it’s finished, yippeee!!!

So nice to meet colleague bloggers in real, and share our common interests.

I loved to stroll the floors with Eline and Antoinette, who also brought the first proof print edition of Eline’s Winterhuis!!

One of the booths I really need to share with you, is the one of ‘Het Goed‘ I just wanted to bring it all home with me. ‘Het Goed’ is a thrift store where they also recycle or up-cycle the products before they sell them again.

And just a glimpse of the 101 Woonideeën booth. They set up two neighbour homes and gave them each a different style. The light blue and red house was decorated as a family home, the warm and cozy home was decorated for a creative couple. I felt more at home in the warm and cozy house, with the soft fabric and materials and the thrift store finds, and especially the wooden cabinet with all those drawers.

The first blog is ‘Do you mind if I knit‘ by Vanessa. She makes the most stunning knitted jumpers and dresses. It looks like she can knit very fast, if you see the amounts of projects she has finished. But she also sews lovely dresses and skirts and I just loooove the crochet patterns she has shared :-) And if that’s not enough productivity and creativity….. the sculptures she makes from papermache are just so funny and lovely, those she sells in her Etsy shop.

The second blog is by Julia Crossland: a painting artist and illustrator, who also crochets in her spare time. I find her color combo’s very inspiring, and her yarn choices are jealousy making :-)
